EXTINGUISHING AGENTS
MULTI-PURPOSE -- ABC Multi-purpose dry-chemical is an effective agent in extinguishing class A, B, and C fires. The agent base is ammonium phosphate.
DRY-CHEMICAL -- BC is an effective agent in extinguishing class B and C fires. The agent base is sodium bicarbonate.
PURPLE-K Dry-Chemical is an effective agent in extinguishing class B and C fires. It is more effective than conventional dry-chemical agents. The agent base is potassium bicarbonate.
CARBON DIOXIDE -- CO2 Is an effective agent in extinguishing class B and C fires. It will not contaminate nor leave residue on materials wich it extinguishes. It is discharged as a white cloud of "snow" wich smothers the fire by eliminating oxigen. It is a clean, odorless gas.
WATER Is an effective agent in extinguishing class A fires. In exposed areas it may be freeze-protected by adding an anti-freeze charge.
FFFP Is an effective agent in extinguishing class A and B fires. Superior to water in wetting and penetration. Aids in extinguishing deep-seated class A fires. An aqueous film forms and floats over the fuel surface in extinguishing class B fires. The agent base is Angus Alcoseal Film Forming Fluoroprotein.
PRINCIPLES OF SELECTING EXTINGUISHERS
- Type of potencial fire hazard. - Severity of potential fire hazard. - Environmental conditions of potential fire hazard. - Effectiveness of extinguisher on potential fire hazard. - Training and physical capabilities of available personnel to operate extinguisher. - Upkeep and maintenance requirements of extinguisher. |
